  • Google’s security team has identified the current Top 10 malware sites in the world. The list reads like a rogue’s gallery of the darker side of the web. Sites listed generally use ‘drive-by downloading’ to install and run malware on vistors’ computers automatically. To make things worse many of these domains are linked through to advertising and other third party content on a vast number of high-traffic websites.

Currrent king of malware is Gumblar.cn, one of 1400 Chinese-registered domains on Google’s list. Their figures counted 60,000 sites infected with its payload which according to this account injects malicious Javascript code into every HTML file it can find. Meanwhile, Goooogleadsence.biz and googleanalytics.net were two of a number of sites trying to fool people into believing they were visiting a Google site.

Malware infections are a growing problem. Popular celebrity gossip site Digital Spy had to apologise this week after it inadvertently served up malware in banner ads.

  • FFXporter is a free iPhoto export plugin for Flickr. This provides a convenient way to upload your iPhoto descriptions, titles, keywords (tags), and ratings along with your photos. It also supports sets (yay!) and preserves GPS tags and other EXIF data. Flickr is a photo sharing service.
  • AIGA, the professional association for design, believes that professional designers should be compensated fairly for the value of their work and should negotiate the ownership or use rights of their intellectual and creative property through an engagement with clients.

AIGA acknowledges that speculative work—that is, work done prior to engagement with a client in anticipation of being paid—occurs among clients and designers. Instead of working speculatively, AIGA strongly encourages designers to enter into projects with full engagement to continue to show the value of their creative endeavor. Designers and clients should be aware of all potential risks before entering into speculative work.
